They recentrly released a new type of chalk, the Crushed chalk. 2 versions are available, the soft and the hard version and you can chose between 100 and 250gr bags. And if you really like it you can even chose 1 , 2.5 and 5kg bags !
Hard: This chalk is harder than usual chalk. Due to the harder pressing, there is less dust and also less consumption. Soft: This chalk is softer than our hard crushed chalk and therefore perfect for beginners.
While the quality and performance of both types is the same, only the feel differs.
The common promise of this chalk is that the chunks should leave only a thin layer, dry better , allowing you to control your grip much better. Let’s see if this is true !
As you can see on the picture below, the chalk comes in the form of a small and very compact pieces
I have personally found a very nice combo by using the liquid chalk as a base layer and only using the crushed chalk to “top-up” when needed. The fact that it only puts a small layer of chalk on your hands is perfect. With “normal” chalk we have a tendancy to waste a lot of chalk.
We all do this: Put your hand in your chalk bag and then remove the exces of chalk outside the bag. And this is very bad. For other climbers (if you are inside),and also for your wallet. By using the hard Crushed chalk I have reduced my consumption by around 4. And that’s a lot !
ps: I usualy tend to use a lot of chalk and this is why i’m trying to find a better option !
I would also sugest to use a bucket chalk bag to get the full potential out of these bits of chalk. With a bucket, you will be able to fully put your hands and caress the chalk. Of course it also works with a “normal” chalk bag, don’t get me wrong, but behing able to take a handful of chalk is very satisfying 😋.
To sum up: If you are looking to reduce your chalk consumption. But if liquid chalk is not enough for you and you need to “top up” from time to time. This is the perfect chalk for you.
